Internal audit finding tracker: free Excel

One row per finding from your own internal audits: who owns it, when it is due, which corrective action it links to, and whether the later verification showed it worked. Overdue rows turn red.

Free, no card. Enter your email to get the Excel file.

How it differs from the other pages

Status per row

The status fills in from the dates. The due-soon window is our own default on the Settings sheet; change it.

StatusWhen
OverdueNot closed and the due date has passed.
Due soonNot closed and due within the window (our own default: 14 days).
OpenNot closed, due later.
Set a due dateNot closed and no due date entered.
Verification overdueClosed, but the verification due date has passed without a check.
Waiting for verificationClosed, verification due date still ahead.
Set a verification dateClosed and no verification due date entered.
Enter verification resultVerified on a date, but no result entered.
Not effective: worth reopeningThe verification found the action did not work.
Closed and verifiedClosed and the verification found it effective.

A check column notes nonconformities without a corrective action reference, and ones closed without a correction date. Under the log you get counts per status and the oldest overdue in days. Counts only, no score.

Worth a check before each review

  • Red rows first: overdue findings, overdue verifications and actions that did not work.
  • Several findings in one area: worth a look at the cause behind them together.
  • Closed findings without a verification date: set one when you close, not later.
  • Keep the follow-up of earlier findings easy to show: owner, date, action reference and verification result in one place.

Your own audit procedure decides how findings are graded and closed. The status is an aid for follow-up, not a verdict.
