Production Process Self-Check Workbook (own structure)

An Excel self-check with our own questions on how a production process is planned, run and kept under control.

Not the official VDA questionnaire. Not affiliated with VDA or any certification body. Not an official or equivalent VDA 6.3 product.

A starting set of questions in 7 areas, not your whole system or audit scope. Customer-specific requirements are not covered, and this workbook does not replace your customer's own audit requirements.

What is in it

30 questions in 7 areas, each answered Yes, Partly or No, with columns for evidence or notes, owner and due date:

  • Planning
  • Supplier and purchased parts
  • Production process
  • People and qualification
  • Goods in, storage and handling
  • Nonconforming product
  • Customer care

An instructions sheet explains how to answer, and a summary sheet counts the answers per area. The workbook carries the version line "8D Gate Production Process Self-Check Workbook v1.0 · 2026-10-25".

Who it is for

Quality engineers, process owners and supplier quality staff who want a structured look at one production process before a customer visit or their own process audit, in their own words and at their own pace.

How N/A works

N/A is accepted only on six event questions, where it means "no such case in the last 12 months". On any other question, N/A counts as No, and so does any other text. Upper or lower case and extra spaces do not matter.

How the result works

  • With no answers, the result reads "Answer the questions to see a result."
  • While answers are missing, it reads "Incomplete: N of 30 answered. Empty answers count as No." and shows no band.
  • With all 30 answered and no Partly or No, it reads "No gaps found in your answers." with no band name.
  • Otherwise it shows one of three bands: "Several areas to close first", "Some gaps" or "Few gaps to close first".

A gap is a question answered Partly or No. The result shows the gap answers out of the applicable questions and the areas with a gap out of 7, so you can see why a band was given. It gives no points, percent or grade. Bands are our own and not from any standard or auditor. Any 'No' answer keeps the result at 'Some gaps' or worse.

A filled fictional example in the workbook shows the band "Some gaps" with 29 applicable questions; all companies and data in it are invented.
