The calibration log tracks due dates; this log picks up after a bad result
The gauge calibration log tells you when each gauge is due. When one comes back out of tolerance, the open question is the product measured with it since the last good calibration. This log keeps that review in one row: lots measured, lots checked again, impact, action, and the dates.
What is in the file
- Settings: an as-of date (blank means today), and working days to close the impact review, used only on rows where review due by is blank (10 working days is our own default, not from a standard; set your own).
- Log: OOT ref, gauge ID, gauge type, date found, as-found result, last good calibration on, lots measured since, lots checked, product impact (No impact, Impact), action on product, customer told on, review due by, review closed on, owner, 8D or NCR ref.
- A separate check column. The status never hides it, and a row can show several notes, joined with a semicolon.
- Counts under the log: rows logged, rows per status, rows with a check note, rows past due (any status), a line that should read 0 (rows not in any status), lots measured, lots checked and lots still to check. No score and no ranking.
How the status is worked out
In this order; the first match wins:
| Status | When |
|---|---|
| Enter OOT ref | The row has an entry but no OOT ref. It still counts. |
| Enter gauge ID | Gauge ID is blank. |
| Enter date found | Date found is blank. |
| Review past due | Review closed on is blank, and the as-of date is after review due by. |
| Review open | Review closed on is blank. |
| Closed, impact found | Product impact is Impact. |
| Closed, no impact | Product impact is No impact. |
| Closed, impact not set | Product impact is blank. |
Check column notes, each followed by "worth a check", on any row whatever its status:
- Review past due, not closed
- Last good calibration date blank
- Last good calibration after date found
- Lots checked more than lots measured
- Closed with lots not all checked
- Closed, product impact blank
- Impact found, action blank
- Impact found, 8D or NCR ref blank
- Impact found, customer told date blank (ignore if not applicable)
- Closed before the date found
- Date found after the as-of date
- Owner blank
So a row still waiting for its OOT ref shows in the check column when its review is past due.
The product decision is yours and, where it applies, your customer's; the file only records it. Your own procedure comes first.

Worth a check each week
- Reviews past due (marked in red), and any row whose check column says past due.
- Closed rows with lots not all checked, or with product impact blank.
- Impact rows with no action, no 8D or NCR ref, or no customer told date, if one applies.
